Jump Start Study
Study TypeWeight Loss
Study PurposeThe purpose of this research study is to look at the safety and effectiveness of combining two study drugs for weight loss.
About the Study
There are two study drugs involved in this study. One of the study drugs is lorcaserin HCl, which was approved by the FDA as Belviq® in 2012, as an addition to a reduced-calorie diet and exercise, for chronic weight management. This research will also study the effect of lorcaserin HCl when combined with a second study drug, phentermine HCl. Phentermine HCl is a generically available drug that was approved in 1959 by the FDA as a short-term addition in a weight reduction plan based on a reduced-calorie diet, behavior changes and exercise.
Combining the two study drugs in this study is “investigational”, which means that the combination is being tested and is not approved for use by the FDA.
