The purpose of the SAMSUNG research study is to collect body composition data using bioimpedance analysis (Samsung) and DXA (GE Medical). The data collected will help Samsung improve the products the company offers.
About the Study
Participants in the SAMSUNG research study will undergo a series of body measurements, scans and tests administered by trained staff. The measurements will include height, weight and body mass index (BMI). The Whole body DXA scan will measure the amount of bone, muscle and fat in the body and the Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis will also measure the amount of fat in the body using a different method of measure. All participants will receive the results of these tests and scans, and written information with guidance for weight control and bone health will be given to the participant and the participant's parents/guardian. This is a Pennington Biomedical Research Center study being coordinated in conjunction with the Bone and Joint Clinic of Baton Rouge.
Number of visits:
Eligible volunteers will be asked to come to the Bone & Joint Clinic of Baton Rouge between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm after at least a two-hour fast (nothing to eat or drink besides water for 2 hours prior to your appointment). Study procedures are not for diagnostic or treatment purposes and the DXA scan is intended for research purposes. All study procedures will be provided at no cost to participants.
