The Pennington Biomedical Research Center, a research facility of the Louisiana State University System, is a dynamic and leading research center in areas of nutrition, obesity, diabetes, and disease prevention. The Position (Director of Communications): The Director of Communications plays a central, mission-critical role in the organization of and execution of a comprehensive communication and marketing strategy that builds on the historic leadership of Pennington Biomedical and projects a global awareness of leadership. The Director will work collaboratively across the Center (and its staff) and affiliated organizations to establish an overall communication strategy. The Director will generate an integrated marketing plan and communication initiatives that not only reinforces, but prioritizes and shapes the Center's place within the Baton Rouge, regional, national and international community by utilizing a strategic mix of communications channels including print, web, mobile print, broadcast and events. Essential Functions: The Director will be responsible for (1) Developing and implementing marketing strategies that further elevate the Center's recognized research leadership. (2) Building and maintaining key strategic relationships with external partners to establish branding opportunities to increase the visibility of the Center. (3) Building and maintaining key strategic relationships with internal partners to establish and foster communication among all Center staff and affiliate stakeholders. (4) Developing and executing a significant on-line and digital strategy that is internally and externally facing. (5) Communicating consistent standards for the Center brand across the organization and amongst external partners. (6) Developing a Media Crisis Plan, as well as general communications and public relations policies. (7) Managing the coordination, planning and production of publications for the institution, reaching across divisional and departmental lines. (8) Engaging in continual review of programs and strategies to ensure optimal efficiency, effectiveness, and quality. The Candidate: The ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise in developing and managing comprehensive, integrated communication efforts for diverse audiences, drafting press releases, supplemental materials, social media communications and website content, as well as building and maintaining media contacts. The candidate will need exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to work within a diverse academic and office environment. Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines a must. Excellent written, presentation, and interpersonal communications skills. The candidate should be a hands-on strategist and leader of the full spectrum of communications disciplines.
Required: Bachelor's degree and documented progressive 8 to 10 years experience in developing and managing comprehensive, integrated communications and marketing campaigns for diverse audiences. Preferred: Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, or marketing. Five to 7 years of experience in managing teams, budgets, and vendors. Experience working within research, medical, nutrition or related industries a plus.
