As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a Police Officer 1-A or Police Officer 2-A depending on the level of experience of the selected applicants. The maximum salary for the Police Officer 2-A is $54,122 annually. Function of Work: To protect lives and property by conducting foot and mobile security patrols; enforcing parking and traffic regulations; rendering emergency services; investigating minor crimes and making arrest when necessary. Provides a limited range of police services. Level of Work: Entry. Supervision Received: General from a higher-level police official. Supervision Exercised: None. Location of Work: Statewide. Job Distinctions: Differs from Police Officer 1 by the presence of certain regularly occurring duties as listed on the allocation criteria memo. Differs from Police Officer 2-A by the absence of experienced level duties.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: No specialized experience or training is required. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must have attained eighteenth birthday at time of appointment. An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted. May be required to possess a valid Louisiana driver's license at time of appointment. May be required to complete a Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) course. May be required to qualify annually with a firearm. For some positions, applicant must be eligible for bond. Applicants must have Civil Service test scores for 9500-LEAPS in order to be considered for this vacancy unless exempted by Civil Service rule or policy. SUBSTITUTIONS: College training may be substituted for the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for the year of experience.
