Description:
The Pennington Biomedical Research Center, a research facility of the Louisiana State University System is seeking to hire a Laboratory Technical Assistant 1 or 2. This full-time position includes; provide daily husbandry care for research animals (specifically rats and mice) including daily health checks, cleaning cages, provide food and water, and collect and maintain records. Must be able to work in small areas, lift 50 lbs, wear personal protection equipment and have basic math reading skills. Some weekend work and holidays are required.
Qualifications:
Laboratory Technical Assistant 1 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: No experience or training required. NOTE:This job is used by many agencies in different laboratory settings. Therefore, the types of experience and/or training required to perform the duties of specific positions will vary. Hiring agencies may choose to post job vacancies with a minimum qualification hiring preference based on the experience and/or training needed to successfully perform the duties for a specific position. Laboratory Technical Assistant 2 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: One year of experience as a phlebotomist, EKG/ECG technician, pulmonary technician, respiratory care technician; or in the care, preparation or handling of laboratory animals or laboratory specimens; or in the preparation and handling of cadavers. SUBSTITUTIONS: College training will substitute for the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience provided that six semester hours of each thirty are in any one or a combination of these specialized fields: laboratory animal technology, laboratory animal science, animal science, biology, microbiology, chemistry, nursing, zoology, agricultural sciences, physics, bacteriology, histological techniques, medical technology, immunology, urology or renewable resources. Certification as an Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science will substitute for all of the required experience. An associate degree in nursing will substitute for all of the required experience. NOTE:Any college hours or degree must be from a school accredited by one of the following regional accrediting bodies: the Middle States Commission on Higher Education; the New England Association of Schools and Colleges; the Higher Learning Commission; the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities; the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools; and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
