Apple & Pear Study

Study Type
General Health & Wellbeing
Study Purpose
The purpose of this research study is to determine why women carry weight differently and how it may affect health.
About the Study

Did you know that where you carry your weight may affect your health?

The body shape of women varies between having the majority of fat either above the waist (“apple” shape) or below the waist (“pear” shape). Since “pear”-shaped women tend to have better health, we will study what restricts “apple”-shaped women from being “pear”-shaped at the cellular level and thus having the same level of health. The study will look at differences in the formation of new fat cells between the fat tissue from the abdomen and the thigh.
