Study Purpose
The purpose of this research study is to examine the metabolic effects of eating food supplemented with sugarcane fiber.
About the Study

Can eating sugarcane fiber help you to lose weight and decrease your risk for diabetes?

It is estimated that 35.7% of Americans are considered obese, and Louisiana has consistently had one of the highest rates of obesity in the country. Obese populations are more likely to develop risk factors for diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Diets high in fiber have been shown to reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. This study will determine the benefits of eating sugarcane bagasse on your body’s metabolism and body weight.
Study Design

Number of visits:

  • 2 Screening visits
  • 4 Outpatient visits

Study procedures:

  • Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT)
  • DXA scan
  • Blood draw
  • Computer based VAS

As a participant, you will be given high fiber food items made for the study and asked to consume them in the morning and the evening each day. You will be asked to eat two fiber enriched brownies in the morning and two fiber enriched cookies in the evening. 

All study-related food and procedures will be provided at no cost to participants.
